Dallas Cowboys vs. Arizona Cardinals

The Dallas Cowboys (4-4) look to start putting their long list of distractions behind them as they battle the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday in Arizona. Another major goal of the Cowboys' is to make a push as a legitimate playoff contender in their final eight games. Meanwhile, the Cardinals look to barely keep their head above water, as they enter Sunday's contest with Dallas with the worst record in the NFL, at 1-7. They are trying to avoid their longest losing streak since 1991, when they lost eight in a row to close out that dreadful season. Recent history does not make Sunday's contest look promising, as the Cardinals have lost the last two meetings between the two teams, including a 34-13 defeat last season. The one bright spot for the Cards is that both of those losses were in Dallas. The Cowboys have lost four straight in Arizona since Nov. 15, 1998. This game will feature a couple of quarterbacks who have only recently gained the right to lead their respective teams. Dallas' Tony Romo recently replaced 17-year veteran Drew Bledsoe, while Arizona's rookie has filled in for veteran Kurt Warner.

The Cowboys enter Sunday's contest confident in their new quarterback, yet unsure of the overall chemistry and makeup of their hard-to-define team. Romo has been getting the job done, while teammate Terrell Owens has not. Romo, the undrafted quarterback from Eastern Illinois, has calmly completed 24 of 36 attempts in both of his starts. He has thrown for an incredible 554 yards, adding three touchdowns and an interception. His debut was a success, as Dallas used a franchise-record 25 points in the fourth quarter to defeat Carolina 35-14, on Oct. 29. Romo almost did it again last week at Washington, and may have completed another spirited comeback had Owens not dropped a perfect pass that would have been a 74-yard completion. This was yet another example of Owens' inconsistency. All of this leaves head coach Bill Parcells unsure of what to expect in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals are coming off a bye week following their seventh loss in a row, 31-14 at Green Bay on Oct. 29. Their rookie quarterback, Leinart, has completed 40% of his passes so far, going 27 of-67. This has led to 360 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions. Leinart and the Cardinals could get a boost this week with the expected return of Larry Fitzgerald, who was forced to miss the last three games with a serious hamstring injury. In general, the Cards' offense has struggled. They have averaged an NFL-low 69.3 rushing yards per game, and offseason pickup Edgerin James has yet to pass the 100-yard mark this season. Sunday's matchup will be interesting to watch, as the Cowboys seek some needed consistency against a scrappy Arizona team.
