Dallas Cowboys vs. Seattle Seahawks

This week Dallas travels to the Great Northwest to take on the Seattle Seahawks in a NFC Playoff game. Both teams are vastly different this year as Seattle hung on to make the playoffs after being in the Super Bowl last year and Dallas came from nowhere with a quarterback from nowhere to make the playoffs. This game will be a battle of Dallas' suspect secondary against Seattle's passing attack. If the Seahawks can run the ball against Dallas and the Cowboys have to keep guys up front it could spell trouble, as the strengths for Dallas definitely are not in their secondary as they have given up many big plays this year. Matt Hasselbeck has not played like he did last year in their run to the Super Bowl and Shaun Alexander has been injured for most of the year. Will Dallas and their Cinderella quarterback Tony Romo still be dancing after the game? It all depends on what happens on the other side of the ball for America's team.

Dallas was mired in mediocrity until the Big Tuna had seen enough and benched Drew Bledsoe and inserted unknown Tony Romo, 2903 yds 19 TD's, and it ignited the Cowboys and especially Terrell Owens, 85 rec 1180 yds 13 TD's. Their offense woke up and they started playing well. Romo has another big threat in Terry Glenn, 70 rec 1047 yds 6 TD's so Romo has two receiving threats for an offense that was ranked 5th in the league. Their rushing attack is led by Julius Jones who had good numbers for the year, 1084 yds 4 TD's, but only managed a paltry 91 yards in the Cowboys last three games. They also have Marion Barber III who had 658 yds 14 TD's this year. These two are going have to pick up some yards to keep the pressure of Romo and their two star receivers. Seattle doesn't have a stellar defense as they were 19th in the league and gave up 126.8 rushing yards per game. The big question is how will Dallas's secondary play? Dallas is ranked 13th in total defense but 24th in pass defense giving up 219.1 yards per game through the air. Dallas' defensive line will have to put pressure on Hasselbeck not allowing him to pick apart their secondary

Seattle's offense is the key to their attack, as they have never really clicked after losing Hasselbeck, and Alexander for long periods of the season. Hasselbeck, 2442 yds 18 TD's, leads Seattle's 19th ranked offense but he has to have protection up front against a tough Dallas defensive line. Alexander, 896 yds 7 TD's, put up decent numbers for being injured for a long period but his yards per carry are very low at 3.6 but rebounded and had 232 yards and 3 TD's in the Seahawks final two games. If Alexander and the Seattle offensive line can give Hasselbeck time in the pocket it could spell trouble for the Cowboys. Seattle's 19th ranked defense has to contain Glenn and TO and if they do it should bring success. If Seattle's Super Bowl team shows up they will win this game hands down but if they play like they have in the last half of the season it could be a very close game and Cinderella might keep dancing for another week.
