New York Giants vs. Philadelphia Eagles This week is the third match up of NFC East division rivals New York and Philadelphia. Mid season the whole NFC east was in disarray with the Cowboys giving the reigns to an unknown, the Giants bickering among themselves, and the Eagles losing their All-Pro Quarterback. Time heals all wounds as the Giants kissed and made up and barely made the playoffs with a .500 record and the Eagles soared behind the resurgent Jeff Garcia. The keys to this game are Garcia and Tiki Barber. If Barber has a big day as he did against the Redskins in the season finale it should take some pressure off Eli Manning. If Garcia plays like he has then the Eagles have a good shot at a win with his intensity. The Giants also have to cut down on their penalties as they give away too many yards that way. In the end the Eagles should still be flying as Manning and company are still a few years away and the team is still not at full health. CLICK HERE TO BET ON THE GAME USING AN ONLINE CHECK! The Giants and their 14th ranked offense are led by Eli Manning, 3244 yds 24 TD's, but he is still to young to carry a team. Good thing they have a great running back in Tiki Barber, 1662 yds 5 TD's and an impressive 5.1 yards per carry. As Tiki goes the Giants go as the Giants passing game is ranked 19th in the league and Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey, 66 rec 623 yds 7 TD's, is still questionable with an ankle injury and he is a big target for the young Manning. Plaxico Burress 63 rec 988 yds 10 TD's, is the Giants deep threat and is one of the best vertical receivers in the game. The Giants defense is ranked 25th in the league and their secondary is their weak spot. The Giants have to worry about RB Brian Westbrook and TE L.J. Smith, as they will be used in the passing game as the Eagles will use them by aligning them as wide receivers. The Giants are good against the run only giving up 114.3 yards per game, which is 14th in the league. Philadelphia is led by the resurgence of quarterback Jeff Garcia, 1309 yds 10 TD's leading them to the playoffs when people gave the team up for dead when Donovan McNabb went out with a season ending knee injury. Brian Westbrook, 1217 yds 7 TD's leads the rushing attack of the Eagles and Garcia has receivers Reggie Brown and Dante Stallworth as targets but they have only mustered 84 receptions and 13 TD's between them. Westbrook is going to have to have a big game so Garcia does not have to win the game with his arm. The Eagles defense was ranked 15th in the league this year but 26th in the league in rushing defense as they gave up 136.4 yards per game. This does not bode well as Tiki Barber was the 4th rated rusher in the NFL. Their secondary is solid as they ranked 9th in the league only giving up 191.7 yards through the air. If the Eagles can somehow stop Barber they have a great chance of winning as they can drop back on Garcia and force him to make plays. This could be a close game that could come down to a turnover and who makes the big play. The Giants were -2 in turnovers this year while the Eagles were +5. If Tiki Barber is only somewhat contained and the Giants continue to make costly penalties the Eagles will soar to the next round of the playoffs. Game Pick Philadelphia Eagles -7 |
