Louisville Cardinals vs Wake Forst Demon Deacons This years Orange Bowl features tow teams that are not used to the BCS spotlight. This game is usually a big game towards March in the NCAA Basketball Tournament. Both teams have had Cinderella seasons but Louisville will end up with the glass slipper as they have one of the best quarterbacks in the nation in Brian Brohm running the No. 3 scoring offense in the country averaging 485.5 yds and 39 points per game, and are in one of the up and coming conferences in college football, the Big East. Louisville wants to prove they are a football school while Wake Forrest is still the second best team in the conference this year as Florida is playing for the national Championship. CLICK HERE TO BET USING AN ONLINE CHECK! It is still a surprise to many that the Demon Deacons of Wake Forrest even made it to a BCS Bowl game after losing 3 key starters in QB Ben Mauk, RB Micah Andrews and OT Steve Vallos. Quarterback Riley Skinner, 1780 yds 8 Td's 4 INT's, who does not have a gun but has the smarts, now leads them. Their primary rusher is actually a converted wide receiver in Kenneth Moore, 434 2 TD's, after a rash of injuries at the position. Wake Forrest confuses opponents with their "flexbone" offense, which relies on misdirection plays. Their defense is led by MLB Jon Abbate and what they lack in size on the line they make up for in quickness. Their secondary is very good with the trio of Josh Gattis, Riley Swanson, and Alsphonso Smith who combined for 12 INT's this year. The Demon Deacons will have to force some turnovers in order to win and they are adept at doing so as they were tied with Western Michigan with the most turnovers forced in the country with 29. This is the key to the game as Louisville is prone to turnovers as they had 14 INT's and 7 lost fumbles. Louisville's offense is led by Brian Brohm, 2738 yds 16 TD's 5 INT, and Louisville was 8th in the nation in passing yards per game with 295.4 yds per game. Overall their offense was ranked second in the nation. Brohm's main two targets are receivers Mario Urreti and Harry Douglas who combined for 2,029 yds, 12 TD's and 113 catches. Their running game suffered a big blow when they lost Michael Bush in the season opener versus Kentucky but Kolby Smith, 780 yds 5 TD's, has filled in admirably being the main rushing threat for the Cardinals. Louisville defense has been up and down this season but still ranked 19th in scoring defense. They are an aggressive defense with good speed and are led by OLB Malik Jackson and 315 pound DT Amobi Okoye. Their secondary is average with William Gay as their best cover corner but with the lack of a passing game from Wake Forrest it shouldn't present problems. If Louisville can keep from turning the ball over they have an excellent chance to win this game and prove to the nation that Louisville is now a football school. Game Pick: Louisville -10 |
