Betting Sides
One of the most common sports wagers is a known as a straight or side bet. In sports betting this means that you have chosen which team will win any given sporting event. If you are betting on baseball you typically would select which team you believe will win the game outright. If you are betting on football or basketball there is a point spread involved... If one sports team has a (+) or positive then you would add the number of points to your teams score. If the sports team has a (-) or negative then you would subtract those points from your team's score. The winning team would be the team that has the highest number of points after you have applied the +/- points.
When betting the spread in football or basketball the payoff is typically $100 for every $110 you wager, unless otherwise noted by the sportsbook. Some of our recommended online sportsbooks offer 105 which is a huge savings on the juice or vigorish. When betting baseball the payoff is determined by the money-line. If for example the moneyline is -145 then it will cost you $145.00 to win $100.00. If the money-line is +125 then it will only cost you $100 to win $125.00.
When betting sports online always try and shop for the best possible lines available on any given sporting event. Some internet sportsbooks offer better lines and less juice than others. Many of our recommended places to bet on sports offer a variety of sports wagering types, reduced vig and statistical information which can be used to place educated bets.
